Questions
What parents ask us.
Plain answers. If yours is missing, write to us.
Each week has one topic, like why some things float. You get one book on it, a few questions to talk about, and one small activity to do with things you have at home. Read takes about 15 minutes, Talk about 10 and Do about 15. A full week adds Tell, where your child retells the book, and Share, with the whole family. That is about 25 minutes on screen a week and about 90 minutes together away from it.
It is the year's plan. There are five levels for ages 3 to 8 (Nursery, LKG, UKG, Class 1 and Class 2), mapped to India's NCF-FS. Each level has nine units. Each unit is three topic weeks and one Storyteller week, where your child makes up a story of their own, and ends in a badge. Every week touches five strands: Words, Numbers, World, Heart, and Safe & well. With festival, holiday and look-back weeks, a year has 52 weeks.
Yes. When a question comes up, like a new sibling, a visit to the dentist, Diwali or why the sea is salty, you can make a book for that moment. Type it in plain words. The book is written at your child's reading level and is ready the same evening. Books you make use your plan's monthly usage allowance.
No. Yarnily opens at web.yarnily.com in the browser your phone, tablet or computer already has, and there is nothing to install from the App Store or Google Play. Yarnily Kids, for your child's tablet, opens the same way at kids.yarnily.com. If you'd like either to feel like an app, add it to the home screen in about four taps: it gets its own icon and opens full-screen. The steps for every device, with pictures, are on our Add to home screen page.
Yes, with Yarnily Kids. Open kids.yarnily.com on their tablet, phone or computer, type the code your phone shows under Kids devices, then tap Allow on your phone. Their shelf shows only the books you have published for them, with narration, and Yarnily's library if you switch it on for that child. After a book they can try a short activity about it, or tap Not now. With their Learning Journey on, they earn a star for each book they finish and a trophy for each new activity, and you see what they read on their profile. It can't make, buy or change anything, and you can remove it from your phone at any time.
Badges are on the Learning Path: one at the end of each unit you finish together. Stars and trophies are earned in Yarnily Kids: a star for each book your child finishes, and a trophy the first time they finish an activity. None of them is a grade, and nothing is timed. Stars, trophies and reads are kept only while your child's Learning Journey is on, a switch on their profile.
Every topic week has three model books, written in advance. You start the week from one of them, or from your own idea on the week's topic. Either way, the lesson stays the same, and the fact pages at the end of the book stay the same.
The words, pictures and narration are made by computer models, working from the week's plan or your idea and under safety rules they cannot override. Every book, including the ones you make, is checked for age and safety before your child sees it.
Ages 3 to 8, in five levels from Nursery to Class 2. You pick the level by age, and you can move up or down at any time.
You see a map of the year, the unit badges your child has earned, and plain signals like the words they have met. If they read on their own in Yarnily Kids, their profile also shows the books they read, their stars and trophies, and the activities they finished. Your child never sees tests, levels or grades. Nothing is timed or graded: we count what was done, and we never grade the child.
Nothing bad happens. The path waits for you, and you pick up where you left off. There is nothing to catch up on.
No. Only Read happens on screen: together in Yarnily, or on their own in Yarnily Kids, which shows only the books you have published. Talk and Do happen away from it, with you. There is no autoplay and there are no ads. A week is about 25 minutes on screen and about 90 minutes together off it.
Every book is checked for age and safety before your child sees it. Before a book you ask for is written, the request is checked, and for a hard topic Yarnily asks you first. While it is written, fixed rules apply: no graphic violence, no romance, no mockery of any group, no frightening endings. The full detail is on our Safety page.
Yarnily handles it gently. A trusted grown-up is in the book, the feeling is named, and the ending is warm and clear. For heavier topics, like war or serious illness, Yarnily shows you how it would tell the story and asks you to confirm before writing.
No. Those characters belong to their creators. Yarnily keeps what your child liked about them and makes an original friend instead: a puddle-jumping piglet, a girl who sails the open sea.
Add a photo and a few details, like their name, age and the things they love. Yarnily draws a character based on your child and keeps them the same from book to book. You can add family, friends and real places, like their bedroom or their grandparents' street, the same way.
Yes. One plan covers up to 4 children at no extra cost. Each child has their own profile, their own Learning Path and their own safety settings, and they share the plan's monthly usage allowance.
Yes. When your child asks for more, you can continue a book into a short series with the same characters and places, remembering what already happened. You choose when it ends, and the finished series prints as one book.
Yes, on a paid plan. Any book can be saved as a PDF with all its pictures, to print at home or at any print shop. Making the PDF uses a little of your monthly usage allowance.
Yes. Send a private link, and they can read the book without an account. They can't change it.
To start: your child's first book is free, no card needed. After that, every plan is a monthly subscription to the same Learning Path: a book, a conversation and an activity every week, a badge at the end of each unit, and books of your own for any question, from a monthly usage allowance. Choose a plan by how often you want to learn: Lite (₹499/mo), Standard (₹999/mo), Premium (₹1,999/mo). One plan covers your whole family (up to 4 children, ages 3 to 8) and every child shares the allowance. The pictures use the most of it, and it resets with each billing cycle.
Every paid plan includes an allowance for making books: writing them, drawing the pictures, reading them aloud and building the activities. Your usage page shows how much of the month's allowance is left, and roughly how many more books that is. It resets with each billing cycle, it is shared by every child on your account, and it has no cash value. If you change or cancel your plan mid-month, the unused part is kept as Additional usage for a year. Reading and keeping books never use it. Making a PDF or a video of a book uses a little.
Yes. On any paid plan you can buy an Additional usage pack: a one-time charge, used after your monthly allowance and valid for 365 days. It has no cash value and cannot be transferred. If your family needs more every month, a plan with a larger allowance is better value.
All prices include GST at 18%. The figure you see is the figure you pay, and every charge gets its own invoice in the app. The document is on the Subscriptions page and shows what you bought and the tax split. Plans are sold in India.
Your books and your child's Learning Path stay: nothing is deleted because you cancelled. Cancelling takes effect at once and nothing more is charged. Whatever is left of the month you paid for stays as Additional usage for a year. After that, new books pause until you subscribe again.
Try your first book free first, with no card needed. If something's not right after you subscribe, get in touch and we'll put it right, as set out in our Terms.
English for now, with Indian languages planned. If you'd like Yarnily in a particular language, tell us. It helps us decide what comes next.
Your child's photos and profile are private to your account. There is no ad targeting and no behavioural tracking. Our approach is aligned with India's DPDP Act and the US COPPA rules, and you can delete everything from the app, without writing to us.
No. Yarnily does not produce IQ figures, percentiles or grades, and never will. Our Research page lists the claims we will not make.
In Yarnily, books you have already opened can be read again without a connection. Making a new book needs the internet, and so does reading in Yarnily Kids for now.
We are starting with families, and talking to a few schools and libraries. If you are a teacher or librarian and would like to try it, get in touch.
