    Yarnily on your phone

No download. Yarnily lives on your home screen.

Yarnily runs in your browser, on every device you already own. Add it to your home screen and it gets its own icon and opens full-screen, just like an app. There is no app store involved.

Works on iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, laptops and Chromebooks. Nothing to install, nothing to update.

    No app store

Yarnily is a web app, and only a web app.

There is no Yarnily in the App Store and none on Google Play. Everything Yarnily does (the weekly books, the Learning Path, narration, printing) happens at web.yarnily.com, in the browser your phone already has.

We chose this on purpose. Every family gets the same version on the day we improve something. Your plan costs the same everywhere, with no store taking a cut. The home-screen icon below means you can open it like any other app.

    Four taps

Put Yarnily's icon on your home screen.

Pick your device. Each picture is the screen you'll be looking at, with the thing to tap circled.

Use Safari. On iPhone and iPad, only Safari can add a website to the home screen. Chrome on iOS cannot.

    1. 01/ Step

      Open Yarnily in Safari

Go to web.yarnily.com. Sign in first if you like; the home-screen icon keeps you signed in.

    2. 02/ Step

      Tap the Share button

The square with an arrow pointing up. It sits in the bar at the bottom of the screen on iPhone, and in the top row on iPad.

    3. 03/ Step

      Choose “Add to Home Screen”

The sheet is long, so scroll it down a little. The row has a plus-in-a-square icon on its left.

    4. 04/ Step

      Tap “Add”

Rename it if you like, and leave “Open as Web App” switched on: that is what makes the icon open full-screen instead of in a browser tab.

    After you add it

It behaves like any other app on the phone.

    • Opens full-screen.

No address bar, no tabs. The book fills the screen, just as it would in a downloaded app.

    • Its own icon.

Yarnily sits beside your other apps, on the home screen or in the app drawer, and opens with one tap.

    • Stays signed in.

Sign in once. The icon reopens where you were, so you don't have to sign in every time.

    • Always the current version.

There is nothing to update. Every improvement is there the next time you open it.

    • Reading works offline.

Books you have already opened can be read without a connection. Making a new one needs the internet.

    • Nothing to uninstall.

Changed your mind? Remove the icon the way you remove any app. Your library and your account are untouched.

    Your child's tablet

Yarnily Kids goes on their home screen the same way.

On your child's tablet, open kids.yarnily.com, link it from your phone, then follow the same steps as above. It gets its own Yarnily Kids icon and opens straight onto their shelf.

    If something's not right

The four that come up most.

I can't find “Add to Home Screen” on my iPhone.
You are almost certainly in Chrome or another browser. On iPhone and iPad the option exists only in Safari. Open web.yarnily.com in Safari and the row appears in the Share sheet.
Do I have to add it at all?
No. Yarnily works completely in an ordinary browser tab, on any device, with nothing installed. The home-screen icon is a convenience, not a requirement.
Is this the same as downloading an app?
It is the same result without the download: same Yarnily, same account, same books. Nothing is installed from a store, and nothing takes up meaningful space on your phone.
It opened in a browser tab instead of full-screen.
That happens when the link was opened from another app rather than from the icon. Close it and tap the Yarnily icon on your home screen.

Still stuck? Tell us what you're seeing and we'll walk you through it. Yarnily works in an ordinary browser tab in the meantime. The icon is only a shortcut.
