Who else sees it

Making a story takes specialists: one to write, one to draw, one to read aloud, one to check it is safe for a child. Each of them receives a part of what you have given us. This page names all of them, and says exactly what each one gets. It is the companion to the Privacy Policy, which describes them by category.
What we can promise, and what we can't yet
These are ours to promise, and we do:
- Each provider receives only the minimum its task needs, and only for as long as the task takes.
- We do not sell your family's information, to anyone, ever.
- We never share it for advertising, and no advertising is shown to children.
- We do not use your family's data to train models of our own.
What each company below does with what it receives is theirs to promise, not ours, so we are not going to put words in their mouth. Each provider is engaged under its own data-protection terms. We are working through those terms company by company and will publish what each one commits to here, rather than summarise them before we have checked them.
We would rather this page be short and true than long and reassuring. If that trade-off matters to you before you upload a photo, uploading one is optional and Yarnily works without it.
We name the companies, not the individual models they run. Models change often; who holds your family's data is the part that matters and the part we commit to keeping current.
The list
"Where used" marks a provider that only receives anything if a particular feature is switched on, or a purchase is made on that channel.
Making the story
These providers help write, illustrate, narrate and safety-check a story. They receive the story and the details that shape it, which includes your child's first name.
OpenAI
Does · Writes story text, reads an uploaded photo to describe how a child looks so they can be drawn, and reads stories aloud where their narration is used.
Receives · The story request and the details that shape it: your child's first name, their age, and the notes you've written; the story text; the photo you uploaded.
Anthropic
Does · Helps write and check story text, and describes characters from their reference pictures so a character looks the same on every page.
Receives · The story text and the details that shape it, including your child's first name; the reference picture made from your uploaded photo.
Google
Does · Draws story illustrations, and reads stories aloud where their narration is used.
Receives · The description of the picture to draw, which includes character names, and the reference picture made from your uploaded photo; the story text for narration.
fal.ai
Does · Runs the image models that draw a child's avatar and the pictures in a story.
Receives · The photo you uploaded, reference pictures made from it, and the description of the picture to draw.
xAI
Does · Provides the image model behind a child's avatar. Reached through fal.ai rather than directly.
Receives · The photo you uploaded and the description of the avatar to draw.
ElevenLabsWhere used
Does · Narrates stories in the chosen voice, where their narration is used.
Receives · The story text, which contains your child's first name.
Running the service
These providers keep Yarnily working: storing your family's stories, signing you in, and telling us when something breaks.
Google Cloud and Firebase
Does · Hosts Yarnily, stores your family's stories, pictures and audio, signs you in, and reports crashes in the app.
Receives · Everything Yarnily stores for your account, including your child's profile, the photo you uploaded, and your phone number for signing in.
PostHog
Does · Product analytics for the parent screens, hosted in the European Union, so we can see which parts of Yarnily are used and where people get stuck.
Receives · An account reference for you, a coarse age band for a child (such as 6–8) and an anonymous child reference. Never a child's name, birth date, photo or story text, and nothing at all from the children's reading screens.
SentryWhere used
Does · Collects technical error reports so we can fix faults, where enabled.
Receives · Technical details of the error: what broke and where. Personal-data capture is switched off.
Taking payment
Where you buy a plan decides who handles the money. Yarnily never receives or stores your card details.
Apple and GoogleWhere used
Does · Sell and manage subscriptions bought through the App Store or Google Play, and handle renewals, cancellations and refunds for those purchases.
Receives · Your purchase and billing details, handled by the store under its own terms.
RazorpayWhere used
Does · Processes payments made outside the app stores, where that option is offered.
Receives · Payment and order references and the amount. Card details go to Razorpay, never to Yarnily.
Two things worth saying plainly
The photo you upload leaves Yarnily. It has to: the providers who draw your child work from it. It goes to the illustration providers named above, and to the providers who describe how your child looks so they can be drawn consistently from page to page. We never sell it and never use it for advertising. Uploading a photo is optional and Yarnily works without one.
Story text contains your child's first name. That is what makes it their story. So the providers who write, narrate and safety-check a story receive their first name inside the text. They do not receive their birth date, their photo along with it, or anything else from their profile beyond what shapes that story.
Keeping this current
This list is kept current. When a provider is added, removed or replaced, this page changes with it, and the date at the top of this page moves. If a change alters what you consented to on your child's behalf, we ask you again rather than quietly editing a page.
