Who else sees it

Making a book takes specialists: someone to write, someone to draw, someone to read aloud, someone to check it is safe for a child. Each job receives a part of what you have given us. This page says exactly which part, for every job. It is the companion to the Privacy Policy, which describes them by category.

What we can promise, and what we can't yet

These are ours to promise, and we do:

Each provider receives only the minimum its task needs, and only for as long as the task takes.
We do not sell your family's information, to anyone, ever.
We never share it for advertising, and no advertising is shown to children.
We do not use your family's data to train models of our own.

What a provider does with what it receives is theirs to promise, not ours, so we are not going to put words in their mouth. Every provider is engaged under a written contract with us, which is what the law requires before any of your family's data reaches them, and each also has its own data-protection terms. We are working through those terms and will say what they commit to once we have read them, rather than summarise them before we have checked them.

We would rather this page be short and true than long and reassuring. If that trade-off matters to you before you upload a photo, uploading one is optional and Yarnily works without it.

We do not publish which companies we have hired, or the models they run. They change often, and neither tells you anything you can act on. What your family's data is used for, and exactly what is handed over for each of those uses, is the part that matters, and that is what this page commits to keeping current.

What leaves Yarnily, and what for

Each job below is done by a provider working under a written contract with us, which the law requires before any of your family's data reaches them. "Where used" marks a job that only happens if a particular feature is switched on, or a purchase is made on that channel.

Making the story

These providers help write, illustrate, narrate and safety-check a story. They receive the story and the details that shape it, which includes your child's first name.

Running the service

These providers keep Yarnily working: storing your family's stories, signing you in, and telling us when something breaks.

Taking payment

Yarnily is a web application and sells plans directly. There is no App Store or Google Play billing, so no store receives anything about you. Yarnily never receives or stores your card details either.

Two things worth saying plainly

The photo you upload leaves Yarnily. It has to: your child cannot be drawn from a photo nobody has seen. It goes out for the drawing work above, which includes describing how your child looks so they can be drawn the same way from page to page. We never sell it and never use it for advertising. Uploading a photo is optional and Yarnily works without one.

Story text contains your child's first name. That is what makes it their story. So whoever writes, narrates and safety-checks a story receives their first name inside the text. They do not receive their birth date, their photo along with it, or anything else from their profile beyond what shapes that story.

Keeping this current

This page is kept current. When what a job receives changes, or a job is added or dropped, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. If a change alters what you consented to on your child's behalf, we ask you again rather than quietly editing a page.
